About RugSizing
My name is Margaret, and I have worked as an interior designer in the Pacific Northwest for more than 25 years. Over the years I noticed that one question came up in nearly every project. People wanted to know what size rug they should buy for their room.
Rugs are expensive, returns are inconvenient, and it is hard to picture how a rug will look in a real space when you are only looking at measurements on a product page. To help my clients, I began drawing rooms to scale, adding the furniture, and testing different rug sizes in the layout. Once they could see it visually, the decision was much easier.
I kept seeing the same problem online. People were constantly asking whether their rug was too small or whether a different size would have worked better. I knew that if they could see the kind of layout I use with clients, they would feel a lot more confident before buying.
In 2024 I talked about this during a family dinner, and my niece Sophie, who works as a software developer, suggested turning the idea into a simple tool that anyone could use at home. We started working on it together. I provided the practical rules, measurements, and real design considerations, and Sophie built the software.
That is how RugSizing was created. It is not meant to replace design advice. It exists to help people choose a rug that actually fits their space before they spend money on something that does not feel quite right.
